Oath of the Gunwarden
Paladin Subclass for 5e D&D
The Oath of the Gunwarden is taken by secret order of paladins whose mission is to uphold the moral tenets of justice, freedom, truth, and retribution throughout the realms through the use of a firearm called a revolver. The secret of revolver forging is fiercely guarded by gunsmith priests.
Paladins who swear this oath swear by the tenets of the Gunwarden’s Creed. You travel the realms saving as many souls as possible and bringing the guilty the punishment they are owed.
Killing one soul is to kill a part of oneself. Kill only when needed.
Saving one soul is to save a part of oneself. Be selfless and kind.
A Gunwarden does not aim with the eye. They aim with the mind.
A Gunwarden does not kill with a gun. They kill with the heart.
A Gunwarden does not fear death. Death fears the Gunwarden.

Additional Fighting Style
You are proficient with firearms. Your able to fire one handed without penalty. You are capable of moderate repairs and cleaning your firearm.
You gain the following equipment:
- Revolver Pistol
Gunwardens Revolvers are reformed from their martial weapons. Upon swearing the oath a gunsmithing priest specially craft the weapon.
- Gunsmithing toolkit
- Bullet casting toolkit
Tenets of the Gunwarden
Justice is the spirit of peaceful harmony. Peaceful harmony imparts that ethical conduct and moral fortitude are the pillars of justice. Judgment for justice is a warden’s sworn duty to uphold.
Freedom is the spirit of liberty. Liberty conveys the individual rights to live in peaceful harmony without tyranny are the pillars of freedom. Protecting freedom is a wardens sworn duty to uphold.
Truth is the spirit of honor. Honor recounts that integrity and principle are the pillars of truth. Seeking the truth is a warden’s sworn duty to uphold.
Retribution is the spirit of punishment. Punishment reveals that atonement and sacrifice are the pillars of retribution. Distributing retribution is a warden’s sworn duty to uphold.
When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel divinity options.
- Sacred Firearm
You imbue a firearm & ammunition with celestial energy using your Channel Divinity. For 1 minute you add your charisma modifier to attack rolls made with that weapon (with a minimum bonus of +1). The weapon also emits bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light 20 feet beyond that. If the weapon is not already magical, it becomes magical for the duration.
- Gunwardens Crest
The spiritual symbol of a Gunwardens is the Silver Star they use to inspire hope in the righteous and fear in the hearts of evil
Tyrants. You can Channel Divinity into your crest while reciting the Gunwardens Creed and brandish it wherever the need arises. Evil creatures who can see or hear within 30 feet of you must make a wisdom saving throw or be turned for 1 minute.
A turned creature must spend it’s turns trying move far away from you as it can, and it can’t willingly move to a space within 30 feet of
you. It also can’t take reactions. For its action, it can use the Dash action or try to escape from an effect that prevents it from moving. If there’s nowhere to move, the creature can use the Dodge action.
If the creature’s true form is concealed by illusion, shapeshifting, or other effect, that form is revealed.
At 7th level you may use any of the 3 feats presented but you can only use 1 feat in every other combat round and you will need to take short rest if you expend all of your maneuvers before using them in another encounter.
You are capable of adding your proficiency bonus to your initiative. Additionally you may fire a reaction shot towards any enemy who fires a ranged weapon at you and misses.
You gain advantage on the next attack roll. Additionally you add your dexterity modifier to the damage.
You are capable of rapidly reloading your firearm with ease. You may reload any of your firearms as a bonus action.
Starting at 15th level, your mastery of firearms is legendary throughout the realms. You rarely ever miss what you aim at. You gain advantage on all shots fired at a specific target with your sacred firearm. Additionally, on a hit, when you damage a target your attack will do extra damage. The damage is equal to your Charisma Modifier + Proficiency Bonus.
At 20th level the Gunwarden is a bastion of justice for all. A continual Crusader’s Mantle spell emanates from you at all times. Courage spreads through the land where the High Gunwarden patrols.
You have the ability to deputize a number of Free Marshals equal to your charisma modifier. The Free Marshals Crest gives average npc’s the benefits of the Heroism spell once per day.
